"The ports in Canada are present near the coastal areas, where warm air currents such as westerlies blows. These currents will blow from equator to western European sea areas.
Because of this, the temperature drops below 0 degree Celsius which freezes the ports.
Apart from this, the Eastern coast of Canada is heavy forested where naturally the temperature drops rapidly during winter which combined with the cold air and freezes the ports and rivers."
