Most rivers flowing west from the Western Ghats do not form deltas because of the high gradient and they don't have to travel much distance to drain into the sea. As a result, they don't carry much sediments because they don't have the time to. This prevents them from forming deltas at their mouths and mostly only estuaries are formed.
