veins are not blue. they are dark red in colour. arteries are light red in colour. in the

the dark red colour is due to the deoxygeneted blood carried by the veins

Kuldeepnehra: Blue light does not penetrate deeply into tissue as red light. In Superficial vein vessels, because of reflectance, the veins which are larger and superficial, look blue, even though ,these contain red blood.

we know that blood color is red, it seems to be blue in colour the reason behind it is that it contains deoxygenated blood. blood in the veins is dark red mostly from the impurities that are being carried back to the kidneys and liver for disposal that are mixed in and brownish which darkens the red color to more maroon. Blood in veins can look "blue" when viewed through the skin because of light refraction and other factors. But the blood is red and the veins are actually white.

CHEERS :-)

AkashMandal: sir, my ans...
AkashMandal: is it correct.
Kuldeepnehra: Good answer
Kuldeepnehra: Deoxygenated venous blood:- has a greater absorption coefficient than oxygenated blood in the red spectral region, and this difference of two rather small, yet, values is amplified because of the long length of red light in scattering tissue. As a result, veins are more likely to look blue.
Kuldeepnehra: Diameter and depth of blood vessels is the third reason as superficial vein vessels is larger, it can also cause the superficial vein to look blue.
AkashMandal: sir, please certify my ans......
