Why do we apply paint on iron articles?

when paint is applied on iron articles, it makes a layer around it and stops it from being exposed to air and moisture. this prevents rusting.  so paint is applied on iron articles.

if iron comes in contact with moisture it starts corroding , so in order to prevent this we apply paint on iron articles which cuts off the contact of iron article and moisture and hence prevent it from rusting
