short non technical answer: to live!

long answer: Our cells take in the oxygen from the air, and use it to produce energy. A byproduct of this process is carbon dioxide. ( what you exhale). Without enough oxygen, the cells cant make energy, and therefore die.

Hii There!!

We do breathing to intake oxygen and to release energy in the form of ATP for cellular respiration.

During this process, glucose is broken into pyruvate and it furthur divides to form Carbondioxide , water along with the release of energy.
This process takes place in mitochondria.
