The colloidal particle carries a particular charge, on the other hand the dispersion medium carries equal but opposite charge. As a result the colloidal particles do not combine with each other to form a larger molecule and remain dispersed in the medium. This is the reason for the stability of colloidal solution.

RohitSaketi: Colloidal solution will possess either one charge based on preferential adsorption of an ion by colloidal particles. There is repulsion between ions so they wont come together and settle down. Also Brwonian movement provides a stirring effect to colloidal particles nd medihm particles which also will not let the colloid particles to settle down.
