why do we don't use the term maize fruit and maize seeds ? what do we say instead ?

Maize is actually a fruit in which the fruit wall and seed coat are fused together to form a protective layer, therefore, we call such fruits as grain or caryopsis. These have a large endosperm and a small cotyledon called the scutellum.
