It is recommended to run a certain distance on the platform at stepping out of a moving train because of the following reason :

1. While we are on the train ,our whole body is in a state of motion corresponding to the velocity of the train

2. However as soon as we step down on the platform and stop(as per INERTIA OF MOTION)

  • the upper part of the body is still in motion.
  • but the lower part of the body which is in contact with the ground stops.

This would lead to falling down of the person in the front on the platform leading to serious injuries.

So it is recommended to run a certain distance such that we abruptly do not stop and prevent falling down.

When we have to run a certain distance in a direction of motion of a train while stepping out because when body is in train then that body is in inertia of motion.

  • when we step out of the train then our legs are in rest but still the body is in motion in this case we can fall but in order to not to fall we have to run in the motion of train in it's direction. But the body still want to remain in same velocity due to the inertia of motion.

when u step out of the train, if you didn't run instead you stood still, Your momentum would keep moving your body in a direction of train .Your foot, however wouldn't move because they had been fixed on the ground with friction. But in case not to fall you have to run in the direction of the train.
