Why do we have to solve some of the word problems through hcf or lcm?i mean which particular type of questions are to be solved by finding HCF OR LCM?

we have to use LCM when they give d questions when two thing is happening same time for ex priya takes 18 min to run around d circular path, while asha take 12 min for d same. if they start at d same point. at what time will they meet again.
HCF- if they give two no & ask u to find separately then u apply hcf. for ex there r104 students in both class 9&10 .for annual exam they have to sit 2 in each desk such that same class students should not sit on 1 bench find the no of benches are needed . apply hcf for dis
