we hear more clearly in a room with curtains than of that in a room without curtains because curtains act as a good sound absorbant. So, they absorb the sound produced in the room and thus, prevent unwanted echo of sound due to refraction. Otherwise, the interlapping of sounds would me most undesirable as we won't be able to hear clearly

We hear sound more clearly in a room with curtains than in an empty room because in empty room there are no absorbents of sound hence the sound will reflect and most of the time it leads to the echoing of the sound whereas in a room filled with curtains the sound will be absorbed by them and wont let the sound to reflect or to cause echo , hence we hear a better clear sound in a room with curtains than in an empty room
