India is a democratic country and we need to ensure the safety of all citizens irrespective of their religion, caste, creed, ethnicity or gender. A minority can be anybody. In India it is very common to divide people based on religious lines. Therefore, the Hindu’s automatically become the majority and other religions the minority. But it should be noted, there are many forms of minorities. It could be a certain caste among the Hindus’ that could become a minority. Or a Punjabi could be a minority when living in Tamil Nadu, even if he can speak Tamil fluently. Even among Muslims, the Shia’s are a minority in comparison to the Sunni’s.
It is human nature that a larger group normally bosses around with a smaller group. We Indians are no different. Yet the overall nature of Indians has been very liberal towards all groups of people and we have achieved this without too many safeguards. But the safeguards are still a necessity against those people who use their majority status to suppress the rights of minorities who cannot fight back. In such circumstances it’s the elected government’s job to protect the minorities. Thus, we have the safeguards.

minorities are people which are fairly less in number compared to the other population. we need to safeguard the minorities and their culture because if the people of this particular caste are no more everyone will forget their distinct ,cultural ,language ,script etc
