A country takes his time from a standard Meridian the 82.5° east has been selected as the Standard Meridian of India which passes through Mirzapur in U.P.......
The reasons for selecting this Meridian are as follows.....
1. Standard Meridian of a country should pass to its middle part as far as possible......
2.India's standard gives IST (Indian standard) time which is 5.5 hours ahead from GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)......
3.It is divisible by 7° 30' which is considered Ideal for calculation of time on the basis of Meridian.....
