Political parties serve to represent the will of the people as an organised group, making politics run far smoother than having a hundred different independent candidates in parliament. By having political parties, most of the time, people can force through legislation if they are in the majority political party, making it far easier for people to take action. If there were no parties, then you’d have to spend hundreds of hours talking to all politicians about one piece of legislation just to pass it through. By having political parties, you can basically represent an idea in an organisation, with voters being the people who follow that idea. You can talk to the leader of a party and work out deals with that party, and, unless you want to risk losing your job, the people of the party must follow what the leader says. (Unless you have enough support to knife the leader. Then it doesn’t matter what they say, they’re a goner.)

Without political parties, there would be a bunch of independents just running around trying to be elected. Therefore, by establishing a political party, the people are able to choose a group that they feel will represent what they want in parliament without having to follow hundreds of independents. they also serve another purpose, however. A political party is a much more organised political machine, capable of churning out propaganda and advertisements as its sole purpose for existing. By having political parties, candidates are able to get themselves out there by mooching off the party, rather than having to use their own precious money for every little thing. It’s a win for the politician, who can be happy knowing they are in a group that represents their targeted audience without having to go through too much hassle, while it’s also a win for elections, as it massively simplifies things in most cases, and it’s a win for the people, who can choose a group to represent their will, rather than a singe person. They don’t have to bother with the nitty-gritty, the party will sort it out.
