Why do we need to compare development of differetn countries?

There is need for comparison of development among different countries. This is there to ensure that there is stable competition and it helps to note the country that are lagging behind as others keep on progressing. One of the methods of comparing the development is by estimating the Gross Domestic Product of the given countries, the country with higher GDP is definitely ahead of the other in terms of development.
