Hi there,

Evaporation is known as surface phenomenon because molecules of water present on the surface of liquid are bonded weakly as compaered to inner molecules and when temperature increases hydrogen bonding between water molecules breaks. Due to this water molecules tend to evaporate. That's why it is called as surface phenomenon.

Hi frnd:

Evaporation is a surface phenomenon because
molecules of liquid inside the water will be in motion with random speeds in various directions.During this motion they collide with other molecules.Owing to the collision they lose their energy and slow down. They transfer this energy to the other molecules during collision. When the molecules inside the liquid collide with the molecules at the surface, the molecules at the surface gains energy and they may flew up from the surface of the water.

Thus evaporation is a surface phenomenon.

WE DEFINE EVAPORATION AS : The process of escaping of molecules from the surface of a liquid at any temperature.

HOPE IT HELPS.
