Why do we say that govt. in the democracy are accountable to the people?

in democracy we say that government is accountable to people because in a democratic government we have the right to question the government if we are not given our rights we are not knowing anything government does we are not provided information what government does if government is functioning  badly and corrupting we can question them and they have to answer according to democracy so government is responsible in democracy
