Why do we say the geitonogamy is functionally cross pollination but genetically self pollination

It is functionally cross-pollination since pollen is exported using a vector (pollinator or wind) from one flower to another flower, but genetically self-pollination as both the parents belong to the same plant and thus have same genetic makeup.
