why do we see dreams ?

Dreams mainly occur in the rapid-eye movement (REM) stage of sleep—when brain activity is high and resembles that of being awake. REM sleep is revealed by continuous movements of the eyes during sleep. At times, dreams may occur during other stages of sleep.

Dreams are basically stories and images our mind creates while we sleep. ...Dreams can occur anytime during sleep. But most vivid dreams occur during deep, REM(Rapid eye movement) sleep,When the brain is most active some experts say we dreams at least four to six times per night.
