The wavelength corresponding to the constructive interference also differs and this causes the reflected light to have various colours. As a result, a rainbow-like colour pattern is shown on the oil surface and this phenomenon is called thin-film interference.

Explanation:

the phenomenon is called thin-film interference. The reason for the fct is that when light rays enters oil surface from water and then into water then the refration of light takes place .The refraction of light usually takes places when a light ray enters denser medium from rarer medium .And thus refraction causes some light to reflect back with different wavelength and we see the different colours .
