Why do we shrink our eyes when we see a bright light?

we shrink our eye when we see a glistening bright light to protect our vision as it can harm the various part of our eye ....as you know our eyes have a lens ( convex ) and we stare at something bright for a
long time the image formed on the retina gets disturbed which might lead to blindness..
