Why do we sprinkle water on the roof in summer?

We sprinkle water on the roof in summer because when we sprinkle water the particles of water spread in the roof so when it gets heat from the atmosphere it evaporates . So the area becomes cool for some time as the water has evaporate in the air.

water has a large heat of vapourisation.In a hot summer day, the roof is quite hot water absorb the roof for its vapourisation the roof get sufficiently cool and one can sleep confortly.
