we don't take only oxygen while inhaling air
as you lnow air that surrounds us is a mixture of gases,not just oxygen. and you should know that pure oxygen can kill us.
coming back to the point, we inhale 21% oxygen , 78%nitrogen and 0.04% carbondoioxide.
but only oxygen is needed for cellular respiration . so the cells takes up only oxygen.
and carbondoioxide comes out as a product so while exhaling i is 16.4%oxygen, 4.4%carbondoioxide and 78%nitrogen.
amount of nitrogen doesn't change cuz it is neither used during respiration nor is a byproduct.
