Answer:

averages are used to compare different figures of different countries . it might be used to compare the incomes of people of two different countries or the literacy rate of two countries. for example: let us consider two countries A and B. in country A let us suppose there are 5 people and the same in country B . In country A suppose there are 4 people who have income 5,000 and the fifth person has an income of 40,000. In country B the first person has income 10,000 , the second one has 5,000 , the third one has 15,000 , the fourth one has 20,000 and the fifth  one has an income of 10,000. the average income in both the countries will be same but it won't reveal the real facts and figures . The reality is that living in country A would be very difficult bcoz more than half of the population is poor whereas in country B all the five people have a good income that is standard. Hence averages do not reveal the real facts and figures which may mislead us in making right decisions .

I hope it helps!! :)

We use averages because they are useful for comparing differing quantities of the same category.

For example, to compute the per capita income of a country, averages have to be used because there are differences in the incomes of diverse people. However, there are limitations to the use of averages. This does not show the distribution of thing between people. For an example, suppose in a country, the annual income of a rickshaw puller is Rs 8,000 while an MNC employee earns an annual package of Rs 12,00,000. The average income of this country, therefore, will be Rs 6,05,000. Here actual income or status remains unknown. One can clearly consider this as a rich country thereby ignoring the income disparity between two individuals. Averages are useful for comparison, they also hide disparities.
