because mercury is a shiny liquid metal also it doesnt stick to the glass wall of the thermometer also its opaque
whereas alcohol also doesnt stick to the glass walls of the thermometer.it also has a colour which is opaque in nature
both mercury n alcohol gives the accurate reading due to this feature
