At 13, in some countries you have to decide your choice of subjects for study and that determines qualifications you work towards from age 14 to 16, then at 16 you get to choose subjects to study until you are 18. Most people look back on that time as absolutely ridiculous. In countries where you don't need to make those decisions you get to just do a half assed job in classes you don't enjoy.
