Berniar highlighted the practice of Sati because he observed the following conditions:
1. Cruel treatment of people towards the widow who was forcefully made to sit on the the dead body of her husband and was burnt alive.
2. No value was given to her opinion and was order to simply obey tradition and no sympathy was shown by the society towards her.
This moved bernier a lot and he justified his expression about Sati.
