because she thought that it didn't belong to her father and she thought it was of his sister. so she didn't claim for clock and bureau.

Mrs Amelia Slater had shifted both the clock and the bureau downstairs before the arrival of her sister, Elizabeth. As both the items were purchased by grandfather in her absence, she was not aware that they really belonged to him and not to her sister, Amelia. So, Elizabeth would not claim for the clock and the bureau when she made a list of all the items belonging to her father for fair distribution between her and her sister.
