They play a pivotal role in nation-building; bringing people from every religious, economic and social background together.Events of historical significance, such as important military victories or other nation-building events also provide the impetus for festivals.

Yes, I do believe that festivals are immensely important for a country and its people because these celebrations represent the cultural and national identity of this country.  The important festivals also bring people together and eliminate the differences we have in our society.
