For more than a century, the United States has provided raw cotton to the Japanese textile industry.Japan was a major exporter of cotton textiles before World War II, but the war devastated the industry.

Thanks to U.S. assistance, however, the Japanese cotton textile industry made a miraculous recovery during the post war era, to once again lay claim as the largest exporter of cotton textiles in the world.

Even though the importance of Japan’s cotton textile industry began to wane in the late 1980s because of international competition, it still remains a significant market for U.S. raw cotton and an extremely important country for the U.S. cotton industry. For over 50 years, the unique
