I don’t think it’s necessary for students who aspire to be lawyers to take political science. Every once in a while, a course may be offered under the banner of political science that has relevance to the study of law, such as a survey of the Supreme Court jurisprudence or statutory interpretation. And of course, if you like political science, by all means study it. However, by and large, a study of political science will not aid one in law school one bit.I minored in political science, thinking it would good preparation for law school. Alas, most of it ended up being useless, and since I wasn’t particularly interested in political science, it proved a giant waste of my time, too. Once I got to law school and immersed myself in the industry, it turned out “international law” isn’t actually a thing, and a nuanced understanding of how Irish elections work will not help you understand torts or property law.

So take every philosophy course you possibly can. It’s the best thing you can do to prepare.
