Untouchability is a practice in which lower caste people's are kept at distance, In simple words the upper castes keep distance from lower caste people. There touch was considered as polluting or contaminating the higher caste. They were not given equal opportunities and was treated bad.

But what our Constitution say-
Everyone is equal and should not be treated according to their caste. But Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar brought a new system to give opportunities to the lower caste people for whatever they had suffered in past and to compete. This enabled those of the small castes to rise.

When India got independence it included each and every citizen because they are of the same nation. People didn't got independence according to their castes and religion. Our Constitution says everyone has the following rights-

Right to freedom
Right to vote
Right to speak

All these rights and constitution do not do any difference between any citizens and the vote of every person carries equal value. So untouchability is like evil it's a mindset of some people which they need to change and understand that it is a social evil, if they would still do discrimination and treat lower castes as untouchables then it would be their loss. Everyone should change themselves according to the environment, rules and regulations.

The evil effectsof untouchability are-

1) It brings social discrimination
2) Damages social harmony
3) It perpetuates inequality
4) It do nof support development
5) Untouchability has brought the scope for religious conversions
6) It has brought down the image of our nation India in the eyes of other countries.
7) Untouchability has also resulted in big clashes and fights.

Now there is also many laws and punishments mentioned for those who still do the difference between upper and lower castes.
