why doctor dips the thermometer in a liquid before use

✴There are two reasons why the doctor dip thermometer in a liquid before using it:-

✔Any infections of the previous patient may have does not infect in other patients .

✔The mercury level should fall down to below 35 degrees.

1) The doctor may be dips to remove germs from thermometer as, it may be shift to patient 's mouth .
2) He dips to decrease the thermometer's temperature to insure that the reading of body's temperature is accurate .
3) He dip in liquid to check the quality of mercury as some thermometer's are old designed .
