Players generally rub one side of the ball on their trousers after applying either sweat to maintain the shine on one side. This would help in swinging the new and the old ball.

Generally, the new ball swings towards the rough side (conventional swing), while the older one swings towards the shiny side (reverse swing).

Answer:

rubbing makes one part shiny, the shiny part experience less friction and rough part experience more.So the ball confuses the batter as it swings
