Why does a boxer move his head backward when his opponent blows a punch?

a boxer moves his head backwards in order to increase the time interval of the punch to touch him .when he moves his head backwards the time is increased and as a result the effect of force is decreased since force is inversely proportional to time .hence the force dcreases and the boxer hits a little.
