because compass needle is also a small bar magnet and has its own magnetic field. thus when brought near a bar magnet, magnetic field of bar magnet and compass needle interact with each other and cause deflection

HI

A compass needle is a small bar magnet with one north and the other south pole. When a magnet is brought near the compass, the north pole of the compass gets attracted by the south pole of the magnet and vice-versa.Therefore, the compass needle gets deflected when brought near a bar magnet.
