Desert coolers works on the principle that more evaporation more will be cooling . When hot dry air passes through wet pads then water removes heat from the hot air and evaporates . This causes cooling effect in pads as well as in circulating water . Now further , the incoming air coming in contact with the cooler water and pads get cooled easily . The cooling of dry coolers is better on a hot dry day because rate of evaporation is more in dry air rather than in humid air.

Answer:
The cooling in a desert room cooler is caused by evaporation of water. A desert cooler cools better on a hot and dry day because the higher temperature on a hot day increases the rate of evaporation of water, and the dryness of air also increases the rate of evaporation of water. And due to increase the rate of evaporation of water, a desert room cooler cools better on a hot dry and day.
