Why does a fuse wire have lower melting point than that of connecting wires?​

Answer:

Fuse wires must have low melting point. Fuse wires are used for protection. Whenever there is increased in load in system than the prescribed limit or when there is any fault in the circuit the value of current increases. The fuse wires are designed as per rated value of current wherever it is used. When there is increase in current, it causes the heating of fuse wire and fuse wire blows off thereby it breaks the circuit and protect the system.

The low melting point causes blowing of the fuse wire at fault condition before it damage the equipment.
