Magnetic field is created by a bar magnet or a current carrying conductor.Due to the presence a magnetic field the magnetic needle shows deflection

FEATURES of magnetic field line

1] they do not intersect

2 they emerge from north and merge in south outside the magnet

3 inside field lines emerge from south

4 the are vector quantity

5 they are crowded  at poles and have greater strength there

hope its helpful enough...

The \sf{\bold{compass\:needle}} is a small magnet. When the compass needle is brought close to a bar magnet, the magnetic field lines of the compass needle interact with the magnetic field lines of bar magnet, which causes the compass needle to deflect.
