Due to refraction of light. it is the propery of light that when it passes from rarer medium(air) to denser medium(water), it bents slightly from the surface of separation. So when we see the pencil, it appears to be bent, in water.

Answer:
Due to refraction of light
Explanation:
The pencil appears to be bent when it is kept in a glass tumbler with water due to refraction of light. The refraction of light occurs when the speed of light changes when it travels from one medium to another.
