Why does a pencil appears bent when it is partially dipped in water?

it was due to refraction
the light ray was passed frm denser medium to rarrer medium

this is refraction
the pencil was from air (denser medium) to water (rarrer medium)

It is due to the refraction of light in refraction light bends to a certain magnitude when object or light is passed from denser medium to rarer medium
