Why does a rider on horseback fall when the horse starts running all of a sudden?
1. The rider is suddenly afraid of falling
2. The lower body of the rider moves forward with the horse but the inertia of rest keeps the upper body at rest
3. The rider is pushed backwards by the horse
4. The Newton's first law of motion is valid in this situation

You can choose more than one option. Should the 3rd option be included?

Answer:

A rider on horse falls back when horse starts running, all of a sudden because the rider is in state of rest initially and later inertia of rest keeps the upper part of body at rest while lower part of the body moves forward with horse.
