a sprinter keep running even after crossing the finishing line to avoid falling forward. when the sprinter is running , his upper and lower body both move at same speed. if the sprinter stops moving his legs just after crossing the finish line, the sprinter's lower body will come to rest by the upper body will keep moving at same pace due to inertia of motion and will make the sprinter to fall forward. that is why the sprinter slows down slowly and avoid stopping at once.
