Why does a voltmeter have high resistance?

Voltmeter has has very high resistance in the range of kilo ohm to make very accurate voltage measurement.
Voltmeter is used to masure the Potential difference a circuit element and connected in parallel. when the resistance is high and as the instrument is connected in parallel the would be niocurrent in the voltmeter.{I=V/R and R is very high so I is approximately close to zero}.

So since the current across voltmeter is zero and all the current passes through the circuit element across which the voltmeter is connected so the measurement of voltage is very accurate .
