Explanation:

An athlete consumes a lot of energy during running which is produced by oxidation of glucose. By breathing deeper and faster, the athlete is basically consuming more and more oxygen to meet his or her energy requirements.

Answer:

As human body does any physical work, the body demands more energy. This energy is obtained from the process of Respiration (usually aerobic respiration) but when we do hard and exhausting activity such as of an athlete running hard to complete the race..... our body will demand more energy from the cells (as Respiration takes place in cells)..... if the body doesn't get enough energy that is required then it gets on hard efforts for it and even anaerobic respiration takes place thus leading to breathing faster and deeper.

Explanation:

∆ Important terms in the answer:

° Aerobic Respiration

The breaking down of food (glucose) to release energy in presence of oxygen is known as aerobic respiration.

° Anaerobic respiration

The breaking down of food (glucose) to release energy in absence of oxygen is known as Anaerobic respiration.
