Why does an iron nail float on mercury while it sinks in water?

As we know,iron has high density.If we compare the densities of both Mercury and water,we will assume that the density of mercury is usually higher than that of water.Hence,the magnitude of buoyant force given by mercury is also greater.On the other hand,downward pull of iron nail due to gravitational force is lesser than the upward force given by mercury,hence iron nail floats on it.But this is contrasted to water.That is why an iron nail floats on mercury but not on water.
