Ariel thinks this because he believes that he has done a worthy service for Prospero. He has told no lies, made no mistakes, and served without grudge and grumblings, and therefore deserves to get his promise fulfilled.
His words have no effect on Prospero, instead Prospero reminds Ariel of his debt as he had saved im from Sycorax's trap.
