The Prodigal son was of a wealthy family, but he decided to take an early inheritance and leave his family. After doing this, he lost everything and spent time living as a pauper in a far away land. When he could take it no more, he returned to his family to ask that they accept him as a servant, but he was restored to his position as a son in the household.
The case of Bassanio is somewhat similar in that he came from a wealthy family, lost everything, and later tries to be restored to society.
I hope my answer is right ......
