Dispersion of white light occurs due to the difference in wavelength of colours.

Dispersion of light occurs because white light is made of seven colours and all the seven colours have different wavelengths and they bend at different angles. So, when we pass a white light through a prism, the constituent colours get bent at different angles and become dominant. Red colours bends least while the violet colour bends most. The other colours are Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow and Orange.
