why does distilled water not conduct electricity, whereas rain water does?
distilled water does not disassociate into ions and have no electrolytes. hence, it does not conduct electricity. but in rain water, a small amount of electrolyte is present in the forms of acid. these acids are produced due to dissolution of acid oxides in rain water and make it a better conductor of electricity.
