Why does effervescence take place when a soft drink bottle is opened at room

The liquid in the soda bottle is under high pressure. When you open the bottle, the dissolved carbon dioxide is depressurized and wants to rapidly expand. Thus effervescence is seen when a bottle of soda is opened.
